Awarding Ceremony

On November 12, 2002: Mr Ramesh Chandran, outgoing Deputy Resident Representative (Operations) of the United Nations Development Programme (2000-2002), will today receive a medal from H.E. Mr Sok An, Senior Minister, Minister of the Office of Council of Ministers and Deputy Chairman of the National Information Communications Development Authority (NiDA).

The medal is in recognition of Mr Ramesh Chandran's contribution to the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) area. In particular:

  • Involvement in discussion on the vision for Cambodia's Information Technology (IT) policy Assisting to position the National Information Communications Development Authority (NiDA) as the government's umbrella body on IT policy, under the chairmanship of H.E. Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Deputy Chairman, H.E. Mr Sok An Co-ordinating an awareness seminar on ICT, in partnership with the private sector, countries of the region organized by the Government of Cambodia in September 2001
  • Facilitating the opening of the CISCO academy in Cambodia, which promotes IT development in less developed countries with the aim of lessening the digital divide between developed and developing countries.
