Ha Noi, Dec. 9 (VNA) - The main press centre (MPC) for the 22nd SEA Games has issued a press release affirming its accurate information of the natural area of the Kingdom of Cambodia, saying "The area is 181,035 sq.km".

All information given by the SEA Games Organising Committee in its websites and publications is accurate, the MPC stressed.

The press release said "Over the past few days, the main press centre received correspondence from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Viet Nam requesting clarification of mistakes on its natural area and several others such as the number of radio and television stations, as well as Cambodia's football logo published on a website construed as part of the Organising Committee."

The MPC said it has issued the press release after checking all related information on the committee's official websites, adding "The source of misinformation on the area of the Kingdom of Cambodia has been identified as 'http://www. seagames. net', a website having a commonly-used domain name owned by a private company registered as 'Hanoi - 1000-year-old Thang Long Infrastructure Development Company'."

"This website has its server located out of the territory of Viet Nam, thus has not been granted an operating licence by the Ministry of Culture and Information of Viet Nam," it announced.

"We are notified that after delivering a note dated Dec. 6, 2003 in reply to the Cambodian embassy, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and Information on Dec.8, 2003 urged that private company to cancel for good the operation of this website and fined it 30 million VND for the misinformation," the press release said.-Enditem
